It is good to respect others, to look up to and admire people. Respect leads you to listen more carefully, not to interrupt, to trust. But if you are with someone you respect, don’t forget also to respect yourself.

Too often we allow respect to silence our ideas or doubts.

If you respect yourself as much as you respect anyone else, you will always grant yourself the right to speak up, to disagree, to question.

What if more people had the self-respect to speak up on the BP oil rig before it blew?

What if more people had the self-respect to speak up in the banking industry before the market collapse?

What if more people had the self-respect to speak up at Enron?

So if you respected yourself as much as you show respect for the leaders in your organization or your industry, what would you speak up about?
